If you become unable to make decisions for yourself, your family would have to apply to the Court of Protection for a Deputyship Order. This can be incredibly distressing and time-consuming, and the person who eventually becomes responsible for you may not be who you would have chosen.
Making a Lasting Power of Attorney now means that you can choose the person(s) you would want to act on your behalf if you became incapacitated. It doesn't transfer any powers to your nominated Attorneys immediately, unless you want it to. This gives our clients a greater level of control over such an eventuality, and also avoids the potential for family disputes in the future.
